Freestyle Wrestling can be considered as one of the oldest sports in history of mankind. It is a hell of a physical battle between two individuals for 6 minutes where one individual who pins the opponent or who will have the highest points after six minutes will ultimately win.
Wrestling needs tons of scarifies you need to learn lots of technique and you must maintain your endurance, strength and fitness to fit the minimum standards. Especially you need to maintain your weight since the tournament is carried on the basis of weight categories. I went through many diet plans, skipped hundreds of meals to maintain my weight in order to fit the tournament standards .As I can recall in 2015 I played the 65-70 weight category where I reduced my weight up to 70 from 79 kg within 2 weeks.
In 2015 as a freshman and the youngest member of the team I was able to win the gold medal under 65-70 weight category and this was the 1st gold medal won by an undergraduate of USJP after 5 years. Due to this enormous performance in the university wrestling arena I was awarded as the best wrestler in 2015 and was the only USJP undergraduate to win Sri Lanka University Colours in 2015 for wrestling. Considering all my performance and leadership qualities I was appointed as the Vice-captain in 2016 where my team ended up being the runner up just 1 point short to champions, University of Peradeniya. In 2017 I ended up with a silver medal due to a head injury in the finals, which cost me a gold medal and two subjects of end semester exams, however I never gave up I did those subjects as a medical privileged candidate and was able to get A's for those two subjects.
